Computers for Charities
Computers for Charities, undertakes an environmental policy regarding computer refurbishment and recycling. "Whilst computers form the hub of our support, it is disadvantaged people regardless of creed, colour or race who remain our key priority". This is emphasised by our commitment to aid and develop projects encompassing education, empowerment and equal opportunities.

Computers for Charities, operates totally through Volunteer support, "no one is paid" enabling maximum use of financial resources. Similarly we receive no direct funding or grants to aid new and ongoing projects, seeking alternatives as our mobile phone appeal. Enabling disadvantaged Children and schools across Eastern Europe to benefit from needed resources and equipment or "Thank you" our Music CD funding education through our "African Schools on Line" program.

You can help us make a difference by donating to Computers for Charities. Equipment, money or time are very much needed. Computers for Charities operates totally through Volunteer support, no one gets paid and further skills from fund raisers to drivers are welcome. Please contact: volunteers@computersforcharities.org

Financial support makes it happen, some 20,000 requests for support are received annually and sadly it is only the few that can be helped. Shipping and transport costs, supporting 20 schools or communities average £3500 per consignment. We receive no grants or funding, requiring intensive fundraising. £50 will provide for one computer for one school, and enables opportunities to send other equipment including food and medicines where required.

Gift aid, either through a single donation or standing order enables us to increase any sums donated by recovering income tax @ 22% If you pay tax please ask for a gift aid form, available from Computers for Charities. For further information please contact us.

Equipment: Have you computer equipment to donate, Old or Dead mobile phones, Printer Ink Jet and laser cartridges. Please send them on. Sadly we are unable to accept all equipment offered. Base line specifications require working equipment up to four years old.We urgently need working laptops and notebooks for overseas. Limited resources preclude home collections, just not enough volunteers or vehicles. Limited drop off points exist in the Midlands, London and South East Regions at this time. Company collections are available in most locations.

Computers for Charities - aims
To advise and support U.K Registered Charities, including Voluntary organisations and recognised Overseas groups through I.T and education. Computers for Charities operates across a wide remit from educational projects in developing countries to vocational projects in Prisons.

Computers for Charities - a history
Computers for Charities began back in 1994, starting off in the loft of my two bed roomed bungalow. A simple concept viewing millions of Computers sent to Landfill annually, redressing wasteful practices whilst providing benefit to good causes seemed the logical option.

Computers for Charities remit is to advise and support Registered Charities and Voluntary organisations, whilst ensuring wider usage of donated equipment for community benefit. Needless to say the Charity has grown, and continues to identify new areas of need within the United Kingdom and Overseas where real differences can be made. Our recent initiative "African Schools on Line" is an Educational project to provide computer access and teacher training to rural African schools.

Computers for Charities is largely identified with Computers, though having worked in the field of Psychiatry for many years, my personal ethos and Vision as founder remains with People, computers are but a tool. The essence of aiding development, be it education, skills or standing side by side is a heart felt process. This has been the privilege of undertaking this type of challenge, whether in the bush in Africa or urban areas in Bombay.

Without the support of Companies with equipment and the Volunteers providing varied expertise, the inroads that have been achieved in our relative short history would not have been possible. Back in 1994 I had little idea that Computers for Charities would develop to this extent, what you see here represents just a small part of a growing Vision.

Computers for Charities also undertakes presentations and talks to Schools, Churches and commnity groups outlining it's work. If you would like further information or to make a booking. Please contact Simon Rooksby. Email: simon@computersforcharities.org
